Laboratory Technician position is for a technician in a research lab focused on supporting stable operations, productivity, and growth for the Composites and Insulation businesses. The role involves developing expertise in glass and raw material sample preparation and testing, including equipment operation and maintenance. Key responsibilities include collaborating with the R&D groups on projects like glass melting and raw material testing. The job requires the ability to work safely and independently, collaborate with project leads, and quickly learn new processes. Strong communication skills are essential in this fast-paced, innovative environment where innovation and sustainability are key priorities.

Laboratory Technician Responsibilities:
  • Prepare samples for analysis, work with different glass and raw materials, and conduct physical property tests on various materials.
  • Melt glass and test refractory samples in high-temperature environments, use various equipment for mixing and melting glass, and prepare refractory brick samples using cutting and grinding tools.
  • Developing expertise in glass and raw material sample preparation and testing, including equipment operation and maintenance
  • Support high-priority tasks, work with internal customers to encourage team-based problem-solving, and actively participate in troubleshooting to achieve lab goals and objectives.
  • Continuously enhance safety standards, follow lockout-tagout procedures, wear proper protective equipment, and promptly report any safety issues.
  • Aim to foster a culture of zero injuries, zero defects, and zero losses, and actively participate in the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) across laboratory areas.
  • Adheres to lockout-tagout procedures, consistently wears the required personal protective equipment, and quickly reports any safety incidents or concerns.
  • Work with team members to ensure lab requests are completed promptly.

Laboratory Technician Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED – Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Mechanical or manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency employing typical productivity software such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Experienced in splitting and grinding raw materials, as well as in particle size sieving is preferred
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and comfort working with high-temperature materials and various equipment. Willing to support cross-functional teams.
  • Committed to safety with strong interpersonal skills, independence, and ownership of work.
