Laboratory Technician assists technical personnel in general laboratory operations and routine laboratory or information handling tasks supporting scientific research. The ideal candidate will have experience in tissue culture, plant embryo isolation, and maintaining cultures. They will also have the ability to spot deviations from standard protocols and initiate corrective actions, work in a sterile environment, and follow detailed instructions.


Laboratory Technician Responsibilities:
  • Assist with general laboratory operations, including preparing tissue culture media, receiving and tracking materials, isolating explants from seedling leaves, assist with transformation experiments, cultivating transformed tissue in specific media, subculturing gel, and liquid suspension tissues, and assisting with vector construction, bulking plasmids, initiate bacterial culture, and expressing protein from expression systems.
  • Help with imaging tissues using microscopes and scanners, and track experiments using a database.
  • Record data and keep track of process execution.
  • Proactively uphold the organization’s core values and compliance with best laboratory practices.
Laboratory Technician Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biomedical engineering, biology, or similar major is preferred.
  • Laboratory experience and the ability to work in a sterile environment are required.
  • Experience in maintaining cultures, plant embryo rescue, and with tissue culture environment is highly desired.
  • Ability to work in very detail-oriented tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheet or other data analysis and tracking software is preferred.
  • May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.
