The Automation & Controls Engineer will support and improve the industrial control systems and electrical infrastructure of the manufacturing plant. This includes providing process control support and troubleshooting to support continuous operations. The Controls Engineer will also support automation upgrade projects.
   
Automation & Controls Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Build and foster an “incident-free” safety culture among all employees.
  • Utilize technical knowledge to provide a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Provide leadership and project management to improve plant efficiency, equipment uptime, and line utilization.
  • Design and supervise the installation of industrial control systems and electrical infrastructure.
  • Provide high-quality design, scope, and cost estimates including instrument and hardware specifications and system architecture.
  • Develop, support, and maintain RSView SE distributed HMI and Allen Bradley PLC control systems including database configuration, coding, display layouts and simulations.
  • Provide process control support and troubleshooting.
  • Utilize Root Cause Analysis methods to problem solve process issues and increase equipment reliability, process capability, and improve product quality.
  • Recommend action plans to minimize equipment failure related to controls.
  • Liaison with equipment suppliers pertaining to any instrumentation and controls issues.
  • Lead the commissioning activities during plant startup including preparing documentation.
  • Coach, trains, and support maintenance technicians and production operators on the manufacturing process and process control interface procedures.
  • Partner with employees to develop and implement Operator Control Plans.
Automation & Controls Engineer Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or related area.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in control systems and sensors in a manufacturing environment (Allen Bradley PLCs, Rockwell software, Powerflex VFD’s, PLF upgrades, ControlLogix).
  • Experience with Motion Control Systems such as Fanuc Robotics, Powerflex, Axis Configuration, Troubleshooting Servo.
  • Experience and knowledge of Network Communications including IT and OT interactions, Routing, Managed Switches, Troubleshooting network problems, FactoryTalk, etc.
  • Previous experience working with SCADA systems.
  • Background in continuous manufacturing preferred.
  • Leadership experience in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong planning, resourcing, and delegation skills.
