Research Agronomist will join an R&D team for specialty-crops/permanent crops, and will be an integral member of our field execution team with responsibilities for field planning, soil preparation, planting, growing, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and equipment maintenance.

Research Agronomist Responsibilities:
  • Meeting and working with Field Scientists to ensure the proper utilization of all agronomic practices in experiments
  • Act as Responsible Agronomist for all specialty and permanent crops that are part of the Field Science workplan
  • Work with a wide range of plant and crop types including corn, flour, almonds, citrus, vegetables, or other.
  • Constant observation of crews and knowledge of crop dynamics are essential
  • Effectively interact between the various plant pathology, weed science, entomology, and biologicals research programs at the station to keep all areas of responsibility organized and supported
  • Responsible for distributing workload aligned to the seasonal cycles of the crops and work within the digital planning system for the research center
  • This role will be primarily responsible for the health and wellbeing of all field trial sites with an emphasis on plot quality
  • As needed, will support the Field Scientist in data collection, inoculant preparation, and other trial support activities. Collect agronomic/trial data including samples of soil/leaves/water, insect counts, GPS points, and other similar data.

Research Agronomist Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or related field of study, or 10+ years of direct experience in a similar role
  • 2-3 years of Farm Machinery experience.
  • Experience working with plants including vegetables, trees, vines, or corn strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Field Agronomics and Plot Quality, as well as GIS knowledge/experience, is preferred.
  • Ability to work with and knowledgeable of farming equipment, such as tractors, sprayers, implements, etc. Understand equipment maintenance and upkeep.
  • Experience with pesticide applications/valid applicator license
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to adapt to new computer programs
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive
  • Ability to manage large crews; Ability to work outside during high summer temperatures
  • Initiative; fast learner; people-logistics oriented
