The CSA Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing concrete and steel structures for various projects, maintenance, and safety-related initiatives. This role involves creating, maintaining, and storing construction documents, project drawings, and plant as-built records. The CSA Design Engineer will collaborate with external engineers to complete and review designs, supporting production plants and projects while balancing cost, schedule, and reliability. The Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) Department provides essential design and support for project execution, ensuring structural integrity, regulatory compliance, and ease of construction.

CSA Design Engineer Responsibilities:
Structural & Equipment Design:
  • Design structural steel components to support equipment installations.
  • Provide calculated lifting assistance for vessels, equipment, and manways, including monorails and lugs.
Project Execution:
  • Develop and distribute CSA design packages for internal and external engineering reviews.
  • Verify field conditions and ensure designs align with real-world capabilities.
  • Create detailed construction documents using AutoCAD and 3D modeling in AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Design foundations, steel supports, piping supports, and related structures.
Permitting & Compliance:
  • Assess underground drawings for interference and manage excavation permitting processes.
  • Develop permit drawings for regulatory agencies, including the Corps of Engineers and the City of Kansas City.
  • Manage vendor drawings and compare third-party submittals for compliance with standards.
Survey & Field Coordination:
  • Conduct field surveys, including grade and elevation measurements.
  • Document and coordinate installation elevations to ensure accuracy in construction.

CSA Design Engineer Requirements:
  • Associate degree (minimum 2 years) or high school diploma with 5+ years of CSA design experience.
  • Strong understanding of concrete and rebar detailing.
  • Proficiency in structural design principles, lifting capacities, and regulatory standards.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and Navisworks.
  • Field experience in an active chemical plant or processing industry, including dimension gathering, survey verification, and structural installation confirmation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with various disciplines and plant personnel.
  • Ability to customize AutoCAD components preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD Vault or ProjectWise preferred
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Leica software, and BIM360 preferred
