The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for promoting the health and well-being of employees at the Prineville, OR facility. This position is responsible for coordinating health initiatives, individually and in partnership with the local medical community, and will work to prevent and manage injuries and illnesses within the facilities/plants. This will be accomplished by planning, implementing, and managing health-related programs, engaging in first aid treatment, and case managing both work-related and non-work-related injuries and illnesses. The occupational nurse will be accountable to lead successful wellness initiatives and track metrics at the plant
Occupational Health Nurse Responsibilities
- Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader
- Work with medical providers in ensuring quality medical treatment for our employees associated with occupational illnesses/injuries
- Partner with plant leadership in driving a zero-injury culture.
- Lead the Wellness Pillar in our TPM journey.
- Ensuring compliance with various policies and regulations
- Schedule/evaluate all pre-placement, medical surveillance, preventative care, health promotion, referrals and fit for duty exams
- Provide nursing care to plant employees as needed and make referrals as necessary.
- Annual audiometric testing, vision exams, pulmonary function exams and fit testing.
- Clinical management of facility clinic and administrative management of other occupational health clinics within the designated region
- Work closely with Disability Case Manager and Worker’s Comp. Adjustor in managing both occupational and non-occupational illness/injury cases along with ensuring prompt but appropriate return to duty
- Work with plant leadership, disability, claims adjustor and medical providers in controlling medical costs
- Champion employee health and wellness initiatives such as Healthy Living and other sponsored events and achieve specified participation levels
- Review medical surveillance exam data and conduct follow ups with employees within specified guidelines
- Evaluate employee physical conditioning and assess risks associated with using the equipment in the Fitness Center
Occupational Health Nurse Requirements
- BSN is preferred as the basic preparation for entry into professional practice, but three (3) year diploma or two (2) year associate degree is acceptable with RN licensure in the state(s) of practice with five (5) years of occupational health experience.
- Licenses and Certifications: (Required) - Licensed Registered Nurse; Certified Occupational Health Nurse (or eligible and willing to take the exam); Current CAOHC audiometry certification; Current NIOSH approved spirometry training
- Knowledge of Occupational Health Nursing science and OSHA regulations and other regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of State nurse practice acts, applicable board of pharmacy statutes, and applicable ethical guidelines
- Possess interpersonal skills to work with people with different management and learning styles and cultural diversities
- Computer skills and knowledge sufficient to operate current PC office suite of software and Health & Medical Services database. Proficiency with MS Office required, experience with Cority preferred.
