EHS Specialist Responsibilities:
- Drive awareness, ownership, & accountability of the HSE program at the site.
- Maintain and enhance HSE programs at the site, ensuring they are up-to-date and effectively implemented.
- Utilize risk analysis processes to evaluate new and changing processes, assessing the effectiveness of existing safety requirements and making recommendations for improvements.
- Conduct inspections and audits of site as required and participate in seed site safety network as required by site management & HSE personnel.
- Provide on-the-job education and coaching on safe work practices and optimized body mechanics to reduce injury risk and maintain physical resilience.
- Assist with incident investigations and corrective and preventive action plans development.
- Provide triage, first-aid, and/or escalation of care when needed.
- Partner with occupational health provider to implement treatment plans based on injury type
- Evaluate injury trends, provide analysis, and develop proactive action plans to mitigate risks and enhance workplace safety and employee health.
- Maintain HSE recordkeeping systems required to document compliance with all company & legal requirements.
- Engage internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with air, water, waste, and other relevant environmental programs for all current and planned processes.
- Work with Regional HSE, Corporate Environmental Affairs, & Global Engineering to evaluate & prepare air permit applications &/or exemption records for new & changing processes.
- Attend additional educational training as required.
- Performs other HSE duties as directed by Site Manager; this is not intended to be an all inclusive list of job requirements.
- Plant work may require working different shifts during the peak of our season.
- Will be required to maintain all first aid credentials.
EHS Specialist Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Medicine, or a related field. Experience in environmental, health, and safety roles is a plus, but we encourage professionals from diverse health-related fields to apply.
- Knowledge & experience in hazard recognition, behavior-based safety, hazardous waste management, emergency response, ergonomics, manual material handling,
- Safety experience in dealing with a large multifunctional location with emphasis on laboratory, field, greenhouse and office environments
- Demonstrated ability to drive awareness, ownership, and accountability for HSE programs and fostering a culture of safety and wellness.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with site management and HSE staff to achieve site-specific safety and wellness goals.
- Demonstrated communication skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence or persuade others through oral or written means.
- Demonstrated decision-making ability & problem-solving skills. Detail-orientated & the ability to work on multiple projects with a sense of urgency.
- Computer skills to include working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook
