Materials Scientist Responsibilities:
- Develop/maintain material specifications for both raw and recycled materials.
- Leverage understanding of recycled materials and their processing techniques to allow for improved recycled content, lower embodied carbon, and/or improved cost.
- Partner with Sourcing to insure competitively priced dual sources of supply for materials across glass platforms, including identification and qualification of new materials and/or sources of supply.
- Develop technical partnerships with suppliers focused on chemistry, analytical techniques, particle size, consistency, etc.
- Use digital platforms to organize and report relevant material data to partners in the glass-making space.
- Partner with Operations, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and vendors on root cause analysis of escalations and near misses.
- Ensure appropriate petrography equipment is present and maintained in R&D labs and plant locations. Justify and execute capital projects to improve capabilities, as necessary.
- Train Operations personnel to insure appropriate level of competency in petrography and fiber break studies. Audit plant equipment to insure good working order.
